I’m Hal H. Harris, a writer based out of Little Rock where I live a mildly middle-class life with my wife and son. I am the founder of Established in 1865, a blog dedicated to exploring Black personhood.
Born and raised in New York City, my momma reared on a diet of hip-hop and Black history. I’ve blogged since Xanga and MySpace was popular, and hope to make it from the small-time to the medium-time.
My writing focuses on Black personhood, the lives Black folk have built in the shadow of white supremacy. I research the folklore, history, legends, prophecies, philosophies, and social science that emerged from such an existence to fuel my stories. Politics, music, culture, television, comics; my effort to master the stories of Black people mean I write across a broad section of genres.
I earned my BA from the City University of New York–the College of Staten Island and my Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas.
